BODY CONTOURING AFTER WEIGHT LOSS
Significant weight loss through diet and exercise, weight loss medications such as Ozempic or Mounjaro, or bariatric surgery can enhance your life, leading to a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Dramatic weight loss is a major accomplishment and has many benefits especially that of enhancing your health and self-esteem. However, while it has a lot of advantages, there is also one significant drawback – loose skin around the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, breasts, arms, face and neck. Thus, skin removal surgery is a common procedure after significant weight loss as loose skin can be uncomfortable and may cause patients to feel insecure.
The areas of the body addressed are often the abdomen (with a tummy tuck or lower body lift), the breasts (with a breast reduction, uplift or breast implants), the arms (with a brachioplasty) or the thighs (with a thigh lift). Frequently patients wish to have several areas addressed at a single operation which limits the combined downtime and recovery.
Most cosmetic surgeries can be combined as long as it is considered safe by myself and my anaesthetist. For example, breast reshaping and tummy tuck is a common procedure offered to many patients.
It is however important to remember that skin of patients after massive weight loss is much weaker and less resistant, and it lacks the integrity of epidermis and dermis with highly destructed collagen and elastic fiber networks. Hence healing may take longer.
