MEDICATIONS TO AVOID BEFORE AND AFTER PLASTIC SURGERY

Medications to avoid before and after plastic surgery

I usually like my patients to stop all herbal medicines ( such as dan shen, feverfew, garlic tablets, ginger tablets, ginkgo, ginseng, and quilinggao and fish oil) for two weeks before surgery.

They need to avoid Aspirin (Aspirin has an effect on your blood’s ability to clot and could increase your tendency to bleed at the time of surgery and during the post-operative period) and any anti-inflammatory medications such as: Nurofen, Ibuprofen and Voltarol for 14 days before surgery.

While most people know to avoid drugs like blood thinners and certain heart medications, you may not know that increasingly popular weight loss drugs can also interfere with anaesthesia and these are usually stopped for two weeks before the surgery.

Vitamin E also should be discontinued as it increases the risk of bleeding.

Any other specific medication should be discuss with me during the consultation.
